Nineteenth Film Society Meeting - Spring 2021

The Gist a bit tired today, so we will give it some time to wake up.

We watched Cherry - directed by Anthony Russo, Joe Russo (2021). Tom Holland's character is based on Nico Walker, an American author and US Army veteran. Nico served time in prison for bank robbery. He was arrested in 2011, and pleaded guilty in 2012. In between his 250+ combat missions and his arrest, he struggled with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). He was prescribed Oxycontin, that eventually lead to his addiction to heroin.

Cherry is a very heavy story. It is told well with immersive cinematography and writing. It touches on many heavy topics as well, topics we brushed over in the discussion. There are a too many cases of PTSD in Army Veterans, this is widely known. Cherry is a great story that depicts PTSD as a nonfiction auto-biography.
